According to a nutritionist I talk to the other day, lightly steamed broccoli is better than raw broccoli -- apparantly it's difficult for the body to digest and absorb the nutrients of raw broccoli, whereas a light steaming prepares it much better for digestion. I steam it with hardly enough water to cover the bottom of the pan and on an electric stovetop on high it takes a little less than 5 minutes from start to finish.
For a while my go-to was melting butter in a small bowl, adding salt and pepper, and then dipping each broccoli crown in the butter just before eating.
Thinking I might try to eliminate butter, I squeezed some fresh lemon on the crowns and added salt and pepper. It was pretty good.
Then I tried elminating the salt and pepper, and after squeezing the lemon on the crowns, I drizzled some honey on top. It was awesome!
The lemon and honey was great the first day and even better the second.
I may have found my go-to prep for broccoli.
